WORKSHOP: Sgraffito Harry Potter Themed Ceramic Mugs

Ages: 8 & up

All skill levels are welcome! 

Each student will be provided a custom pre-thrown leather hard item. Our instructor will guide participants in how to use underglazes to properly coat your item in preparation for the sgraffito process. Students are strongly encouraged to pre-plan their designs in advance, but we will have a selection of designs and patterns to choose from too!

What is "Sgraffito" - (Italian: “scratched”), in the visual arts, a technique used in painting, pottery, and glass, which consists of putting down a preliminary surface, covering it with another, and then scratching the superficial layer in such a way that the pattern or shape that emerges is of the lower colour.

Please keep in mind that pottery is a process. 

The time you will spend in class is for learning beginner/intermediate skills and for making your beautiful creations.

The pieces you will create during this session will first be bisque fired once your class is completed and they are fully dry.

Your bisqued works will then be glaze fired.

The anticipated time from the end of your class for the studio to contact you to pick up your completed projects is about 6-8 weeks.

Your patience is appreciated.

In most cases all works created will be food safe, your instructor will confirm this when the works are picked up.

For the sake of longevity - we strongly recommend you handwash your items.

We do not recommend using your pieces in the microwave.
